Slalom

The club hosts two national races each year for the division 3 and 4 classes, including K1, C1, C2, team races and often a wildwater race. To book on the next race visit the Canoe Clalom website, https://www.canoeslalom.co.uk/calendar/division-3/

The relatively narrow, rocky and shallow river is easy Grade 2 water at this location. Reservoir fed, the river maintains a steady but low flow rate through the summer months. Sheffield Canoe Club has done some work on the river bed to keep the Slalom Course navigable. Gates are placed on flat water, in quiet pools, near eddies and across faster water sections, with small waves providing for excitement and the odd, infrequent spill.

The neighbouring grassed area, off the sports ground, offers good camping but also provides access along the whole length of the river bank for stewarding, safety, spectators and non-paddling coaches and instructors to see and encourage paddlers. There is a surfaced car park area on site, catering facilities.

Races at Oughtibridge

The first weekend in July was the Halifax Canoe Club's division 3 and 4 slalom race at our site. This is the third time their race has been held at our site, due to access issues at their own river and we are happy to share the site with them.

It was a succesful weekend of racing with firsts for some and promotions in several classes. Well done to all who came and competed. We hope to see you in September, 19th/20th, for our own division 3 and 4 race weekend.
